Grant Program

Grants are awarded to other non-for-profit organizations whose programs benefit children from throughout south central Pennsylvania.  The funds used to support the local grant program are raised by McDonald's Owner/Operators of Central Pennsylvania and the customers of their 84 restaurants, and from the RMHC U. S. Matching Grant Program in Oak Brook, IL.  Grants range between $500 and $30,000.  More than $1.7 million has been awarded to over 100 local organizations since 1990.

Grant Application Deadlines

2008

Grant applications must either be received or postmarked by the following dates for review by the RMHC Grant Committee:

  •  January 18, 2008

  •  February 29, 2008

  •  July 11, 2008

  •  September 12, 2008

RMHC of Central PA began to reduce the available funds for grant awards to not-for-profit organizations in 2007 due to the anticipated expansion of the Hershey Ronald McDonald House.  Now that the Capital Campaign has begun for the House's much needed addition, RMHC must trim back even further both the number of grants made and the size of grant awards for the next several years.  We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

The RMHC of Central PA office is located at the Ronald McDonald House of Hershey, 745 West Governor Road (Rt. 322), Hershey, PA  17033-2304.

REMINDER: The latest audited financial statement and a letter from the IRS stating the tax exempt status must be included with the completed application.

Please contact Linda Bugden, RMHC Financial Coordinator, if you have any questions. Phone: (717) 533-4001. Email: lkbugden@comcast.net.

Guidelines For Grant Applicants

These guidelines are provided to help your organization prepare a complete grant application.

Funding Considerations:

To be considered for funding, an organization must be designated as not-for-profit and tax exempt, as defined under IRS codes, 501 (c) (3).

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Pennsylvania (RMHC) is most interested in organizations that have:

* A program that directly benefits children
* Consistent and effective management
* Clear goals and objectives
* A broad base of funding
* A demonstrated ability to respond to the needs of specific groups in a manner
  that yields measurable results
* A request to fund specific programs

RMHC of Central Pennsylvania DOES NOT fund:

* Advertising or fund raising drives
* Partisan, political, or denominational programs
* Salaries, travel expenses or general and administrative costs
* Intermediary funding
* Endowment campaigns
* Requests not in writing and not accompanied by a grant application

Please keep in mind:  Because of the volume of requests and community needs, the maximum number of consecutive years that grants will be made to one organization is three.  Subsequent applications will be considered after a minimum one year waiting period.
